About Us
It all started with Mom’s button box! As two little girls, all the wonderful colors, shapes and sizes of buttons intrigued us. We could sit for hours arranging and stringing the buttons. A few years later we discovered Pop Beads! These great little plastic beads could be connected together and had a characteristic "pop" sound when pulled apart. They were available in gumball type vending machines, and a nickel would buy a small handful. We saved our nickels, and bought Pop Beads every chance we got. This allowed endless hours of combining colors and sizes for necklaces, bracelets and anklets.
In our grade school years straight pins that were strung with colorful seed beads and small strips of colored leather enthralled us. They were the fashion of the day and were worn like small stickpins in collar or lapel. We made a lovely assortment of colors and were on our way to a career in fashion jewelry! We took them to school to sell to our fellow students during recess. Our careers were put on hold when the nuns found out that we were not only making a profit from our fellow students, but selling "pointy, dangerous weapons!" Naturally the boys in our class didn’t help by sticking any girl they had a crush on!
After we moved away from home, we each continued our endeavors in making jewelry on our own. We wore our jewelry and gave our creations as gifts. It didn’t take long for friends and co-workers to ask if we would sell them some of our pieces. Bead Salad was born!
We believe beads have a wonderful healing and therapeutic quality. Marjorie was helped after her 9-11 close call, when beading was the only thing she could concentrate on.
All of our items are made with love, and our sincerest wish is for our special creations to put a smile on your face! May our jewelry bring you love, joy and good health!
Happy shopping and have a beadiful day!
